To get your passport faster, there are three services: urgent pick-up (before the end of the next business day), express pick-up (2 to 9 business days) and the emergency service offered on weekends or holidays. You can request them when you submit your application in person, or after you have submitted it if you need your passport sooner. These services require the necessary documents, proof of travel and additional fees (urgent pick-up: $125.75 since March 31, 2026). Nothing guarantees that your passport will arrive on time.

Choose the service that fits your need: urgent pick-up (before the end of the next business day), express pick-up (2 to 9 business days) or the emergency service offered on weekends or holidays. The latter is only offered for emergencies, if you must travel that weekend or holiday.
Find a service point that offers the service you want: the official page tells you which ones offer the express, urgent or emergency service. The official site offers to book an appointment online. Express and urgent processing is only offered if you apply in person at a passport office.
Prepare the necessary documents and your proof of travel: for example a plane, bus or train ticket, or a written statement explaining why you need the passport.
Submit your application in person and ask for the service. The officer will tell you the date you can pick up your passport. If you have already submitted your application, you can also request the service afterward.
Plan for the additional fees: in 2026, urgent pick-up costs $125.75 and the weekend or holiday service costs $383.50. The official page does not give the amount for express pick-up: check the fee list.
If you have already submitted a passport application and need the passport within the next 9 business days or less, call the Passport Program at 1-800-567-6868: they will help you find a way to get your passport urgently.
If you are outside Canada, contact the nearest Government of Canada office abroad: staff decide whether you can receive the urgent service.
