How do you contest a statement of offence (traffic ticket)?
✓ Verified answer Written from official pages, with checked citations and a verification date.
General information, not legal advice. According to Québec.ca, a plea is your response (guilty or not guilty) to the charge on your statement of offence. You have 30 days after the date you received your statement to submit your plea. To contest the offence, you submit a not guilty plea: a trial is then held in the judicial district where the offence took place, and a hearing notice tells you where and when to appear. If you do not submit your plea, or miss the deadline, a judgment by default may be rendered against you.
