How to vote

Practical information for the October 5, 2026 election. Source: Élections Québec.

Election day

Monday, October 5, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Accepted identification

An employee card, a bank statement or a student card, on their own, are not sufficient.

None of these documents?

You can still vote if you are accompanied by a spouse, relative or close acquaintance who has a valid piece of identification — that person can confirm your identity.

Is voting compulsory? Can you vote online?

No, voting is not compulsory in Quebec: it is a right, and there is no fine for not voting. And there is no Internet voting in the provincial election: you vote in person, on election day, in advance, or at the returning officer's office.

Did not receive your reminder card?

The (yellow) reminder card is not required identification to vote — it only makes the process easier. If you are registered on the list of electors, you can vote without it, with valid identification.

Advance voting

Took place on September 27 and 28, 2026 (already over). Election day, October 5, is the only option left if you have not voted yet.

How to mark your ballot

Make an X, a checkmark, a dot, or fill in the circle to the right of the name of your choice. The mark must be clear and stay inside or near the circle, without touching another circle.

Ballot rejected if: no mark, a mark in more than one circle, a name circled instead of the circle, a drawing or word added, or a mark that could identify you (signature, initials).
