How do I register for a free French course (Francisation Québec)?
✓ Verified answer Written from official pages, with checked citations and a verification date.
Québec offers free French courses to people aged 16 and over who live in Québec and are not subject to compulsory school attendance, as well as to people planning to settle in Québec. If you are an immigrant, you apply for admission online, either for a full-time or a part-time course. There are no admission or tuition fees, but you may have to pay a small amount for materials or activities. Financial assistance is possible under certain conditions: for full-time courses, up to $230 per week.

Steps
- Check that you are eligible for the courses for immigrants: born outside Canada, aged 16 or over, and living in Québec. If you are working or studying temporarily in Québec, you can also apply, as long as you respect the conditions linked to your status.
- Choose your format: full-time course (25 to 30 hours per week), part-time course (6, 9, 12, 16 or 20 hours per week, daytime, evening or weekend) or online course (intermediate and advanced levels, at your own pace).
- Gather your information: a document that proves your immigration status, or your individual reference number (found on certain documents, such as the Quebec selection certificate or the Quebec acceptance certificate). To request financial assistance, you also need your social insurance number.
- Fill out the online admission application. For part-time courses, you first create an "Apprendre le français" account on the admission platform, then a new file. You can save your application and complete it in several sessions.
- In the form, indicate your preferred training location (or the course that suits you best for part-time) and answer "Yes" to the financial assistance question if you want to apply.
- Wait for the communications: the first confirms you can take a course, the second confirms your registration, the location and the start date. An interview to assess your French is sometimes required.
- Once the course has started, attendance is mandatory: take an active part and follow your training location's attendance rules.
